Sighing, Aiko entered her room, plopping down onto her bead
promptly. “It’s really a waste, Takasugi Riko-san.” Images of the younger
girl’s sadden expression while playing the piano kept flooding back into her
mind. Pushing them aside, Ako went up to her keyboard and started playing.
It was the same piece that Riko had played earlier, except
what Aiko played held more happiness and hope. It wasn’t as smooth as how the
Takasugi prodigy had played, but the feelings in the piece covered it up.
Stopping abruptly, Aiko made a decision, and rested for the
day with a smile on her face.
***
The short and sharp knocking on her door woke her up the
next morning, and what Aiko didn’t expect was to see Riko standing there.
“Takasugi-san?”
Riko pushed her aside, walking into her apartment without
any proper permission. Looking around, she sighed. “No wonder I have to come
over and fetch you. You broke your alarm.” Her eyes followed Riko’s fingers,
and saw screws and springs popping out from her deceased alarm clock.
“NO. I JUST BOUGHT IT.”
“Just hurry up and change. You’re late for classes.” From
the side of her eyes, Aiko saw the younger girl’s expressions soften as she
looked around her apartment.
Maybe Takaksugi isn’t that bad a person after all.
***
“I still can’t believe that you’ve came over just to wake me
up, Takasugi-san.” Both girls were walking side by side, and Aiko was the one
that’s doing most of the talking. Looking at Riko, Aiko realized that the
younger girl was about the same as any other teenagers of their age. She saw
her fiddling with her fingers, and even softly bouncing in each step she took,
though the Takasugi wouldn’t admit that as skipping.
Bring up her courage; Aiko took in a deep breath and bluttered
out, “Takasugi-san! Please form a band with me!” She saw Riko stiffen, turning
back and looking at her with wide eyes in disbelieve.
“You’re kidding me.”
***
That was one week ago.
***
Sitting down with her classmate, Aiko pouted, “Yuki-chan, I
still don’t understand why Takasugi-san doesn’t want to form a band with me.”
The girl continued to munch on her sandwich, until she realized that Yuki wasn’t
replying her.
“Yuki-chan?”
“Aiko-chan, you asked Takasugi-san to form a band with you?
Didn’t you know that it’s almost impossible?” Aiko just shook her head, not
knowing about anything since she had just transferred over.
Looking up into the sky, Yuki sighed as she tried to explain
that there was only one person that succeeded in making a band that includes
Riko in it. “What band is it?”
“The band’s long gone, since the leader … left. And that’s
probably why Takasugi-san never accepted anyone’s request to form a band ever
again. But that band was awesome, with Kusaka-kun leading. The Takasugi-san
back then was … different, she was much more approachable.”
The bell rang, signaling to them the end of their break.
What Yuki had told her was etched into Aiko’s mind. ‘Kusaka, that person must
be amazing to make Takasugi-san form a band with him.’ Shrugging it to the back
of her mind, Aiko packed up and ran back to the classroom, making a mental note
to ask about some information about this Kusaka guy.
